Sharon Spears Obituary

Sharon Kay (Stephenson) Spears, 63, of Fortville passed away on February 17, 2024.  She was born on September 15, 1960, to Paul Nolan and Patricia Louise (Landes) Stephenson in Noblesville, Indiana.  Sharon was affectionately known as “Lucy” to all that knew and loved her, due to her getting into situations that only she could find herself in.  She was a 1978 graduate of Lapel High School, where she played varsity basketball.

After high school, Sharon worked for a variety of transportation companies until she took a big leap of faith and started her own business, Spears Consulting Services, where she specialized in DOT safety.  While she was extremely devoted to her work and growing her company, numerous individuals she has worked with over the decades have shared that she was “family first, business second” as she would always want to share photos and stories of her family, especially her five grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as “Mimi.”

Sharon had many joys in this lifetime. One of her biggest was her love of flowers.  She spent hours each week in the spring, summer, and fall tending to her flower gardens.  Her flower beds were a highlight of the neighborhood, and she would often let neighborhood kids pick flowers for their mom from her well cared for garden.  Much to the children’s enjoyment, she would send them home in plastic Disney character cups.

One of her greatest character traits was her ability to never leave a stranger a stranger.  She had the unique ability to make friends whether it was in line at a store, on a beach, or with an elevator mechanic at a Starbucks in downtown Chicago (true story).  She loved talking and being social, and she had a phenomenal gift of making everyone feel welcome and comfortable around her.  Her stories were ones that could bring forth the deepest of belly laughs and often left you wondering just how she would get herself into any certain predicament.  Her love of life, positive outlook, and laughter will be dearly missed.

The greatest love of her life was her family.  She and Rex were married on July 18, 1981, and were happily married the last 42 years.  Together, they raised three children and were able to celebrate the births of their five grandchildren.  Sharon’s world revolved around her family, and she was a true definition of devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Sharon is survived by her husband Rex Allen Spears.  She is also survived by her three children, Matthew (Sandra) Spears, Brittany Spears, and Ashley (Rolando) Escoto Ocampo; grandchildren Karrigan, Ava, Elfie, Pax and Theo; her mother Patricia Louise Stephenson; brothers Greg (Jill) Stephenson and Curt (Betty) Stephenson; sister Paula (Gary) Ingle; and numerous extended family members and friends.  She is preceded in death by her father Paul Nolan Stephenson.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 11 am to 1 pm at Seals Funeral Home, 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040.  Her funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1 pm.  Burial will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.
